Mounjaro vs Zepbound: What's the Difference?

Both are tirzepatide, approved for different things. Here is the honest difference.

The short answer

Mounjaro and Zepbound are both tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly. Mounjaro is FDA-approved to treat type 2 diabetes. Zepbound is FDA-approved for chronic weight management and for obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Same molecule, different approved uses.

How tirzepatide differs from semaglutide

Tirzepatide acts on two appetite-hormone pathways (GIP and GLP-1); semaglutide acts on one (GLP-1). In trials of the brand drugs, tirzepatide produced larger average weight loss.

What the evidence shows

In SURMOUNT-1 (Jastreboff et al., NEJM 2022; PMID 35658024), adults on tirzepatide 15 mg lost an average of about 20.9% of body weight at 72 weeks versus 3.1% on placebo. That studied the brand medication; individual results vary.

How this relates to what we offer

New Hope Weight Loss does not dispense Mounjaro or Zepbound. We provide physician-supervised compounded tirzepatide, which uses the same active ingredient but is not FDA-approved, not brand-identical, and not reviewed by the FDA. A $119 review decides whether it is appropriate for you.

Frequently asked questions

Are Mounjaro and Zepbound the same?

Both are tirzepatide from Eli Lilly. Mounjaro is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes; Zepbound for weight management and obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Same molecule, different approved uses.

Is tirzepatide stronger than semaglutide?

In trials of the brand drugs, tirzepatide produced larger average weight loss (up to about 20.9% in SURMOUNT-1) than semaglutide (about 14.9% in STEP 1). It works on two hormone pathways instead of one. The best choice still depends on your situation.

Is compounded tirzepatide the same as Zepbound or Mounjaro?

No. It uses the same active ingredient but is not FDA-approved, not brand-identical, and not reviewed by the FDA. We never claim it is the brand.

Does Zepbound help with sleep apnea?

Zepbound is FDA-approved for obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, based on the SURMOUNT-OSA trial. That indication applies to the brand product.

Does New Hope Weight Loss offer Mounjaro or Zepbound?

We do not dispense the brand products. We offer physician-supervised compounded tirzepatide from $233/mo after a $119 review, with honest framing about what compounded means.
