Switching From a GLP-1 Injection to a Pill: Is It Right for You?

Daily GLP-1 pills are now FDA-approved, so switching is a real question. Here is what the evidence suggests and the honest things to weigh.

The short answer

With FDA-approved oral options now available, some people wonder whether they can move from a weekly injection to a daily pill without losing progress. Early evidence is encouraging for one approved oral drug, but switching is an individual decision that should be made with a physician, not on your own.

What the evidence suggests

In the ATTAIN-MAINTAIN study (Aronne et al., Nature Medicine, 2026; PMID 42120723), people who switched from an injectable like tirzepatide or semaglutide to orforglipron, an FDA-approved oral small-molecule medication, maintained roughly 74.7 to 79.3 percent of their prior weight loss at 52 weeks. Note that orforglipron is a small molecule, not a peptide, and is a brand-name approved drug, not something a clinic compounds.

What this is not

This is not a recommendation to switch, and it is not medical advice. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved or brand-identical, and New Hope Weight Loss does not dispense brand-name pills or compound copies of approved drugs. If a switch is on your mind, bring it to a medical review so a physician can guide it safely.

What we offer at New Hope Weight Loss today

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch from a GLP-1 injection to a pill without losing my results?

Possibly, but it is an individual decision for your physician. In ATTAIN-MAINTAIN (PMID 42120723), people who switched from an injectable to orforglipron, an FDA-approved oral medication, maintained roughly 75 to 79 percent of their prior weight loss at 52 weeks. Your own result would depend on your situation, so do not switch on your own.

Is orforglipron a peptide?

No. Orforglipron (brand name Foundayo) is a small molecule, not a peptide. That is part of why it can be taken as a simple once-daily pill with no food or timing rules. It is FDA-approved, and a clinic cannot compound a copy of it.

Does New Hope Weight Loss prescribe oral GLP-1 pills?

We do not dispense brand-name pills like oral Wegovy or Foundayo, and no clinic can compound a copy of an approved drug. We offer physician-supervised compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide injections, with honest guidance if a branded oral option is a better fit for you.

Why might someone prefer to stay on an injection?

A weekly injection has no fasting or timing rules, which some people find easier than a daily pill taken on an empty stomach. Tolerability, cost, and what has already worked also matter. There is no universal best option; a physician can help you weigh it.

Is switching safe to do on my own?

No. Changing medications, doses, or formulations should be guided by a physician who knows your history. Doses are not interchangeable between drugs, and a supervised plan protects both your safety and your progress. This page is educational and not medical advice.
